All the Feels, within an Evolving Landscape | Ramak Fazel
All the Feels, within an Evolving Landscape is a site-specific project by Ramak Fazel created for Volvo Studio Milano, curated by Viasaterna, in collaboration with the Fondazione Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano Onlus and Portanuova.
Ramak Fazel, an American photographer of Iranian origins, directs once again his artist gaze towards a portion of the sky in Milan, where he lived and worked for fifteen years between 1994 and 2009. On this occasion, Fazel has chosen a particular location—Piazza Alvar Aalto, at the intersection of Via Melchiorre Gioia and Viale della Liberazione, where the entrance to Volvo Studio Milano opens up—as the observation point for an evolving urban landscape.
From this viewpoint overlooking Portanuova, a vibrant and constantly evolving district, emblematic of an unprecedented urban renewal in Europe for its cultural, social, and environmental impact, Fazel frames a constellation of buildings that, in his view, define a new contemporary city landscape. This gives rise to an expansive and intricate project that includes a public environmental installation for Milan Art Week and Milan Design Week, continuing with a photographic exhibition within the interior spaces of Volvo Studio Milano.
The installation in Piazza Alvar Aalto invites observation through five aluminum viewfinders, a reimagining of panoramic telescopes that direct, focus, and concentrate the view on five distinctive subjects or, rather, five portions of architecture, which, when moving the gaze from left to right, are: UniCredit Tower, Bosco Verticale, BAM - Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano, Palazzo Lombardia, and the Church of San Gioachimo.
Ramak Fazel wanted this project, dedicated to the gaze and the guided discovery of a specific city landscape, to become an experience that could also engage blind or visually impaired individuals. Thanks to the collaboration with the Fondazione Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano Onlus and its educational workshop, led by Aurelio Sartorio, the installation also features tactile scale models of the five buildings made from plastic material. The texts that complete the descriptive panel of the five models, curated by architectural historian Maria Vittoria Capitanucci, are in high-contrast colors, readable by visually impaired individuals, as well as in Braille.
All the Feels, within an Evolving Landscape continues inside Volvo Studio Milano, specifically in the office area, with an exhibition presenting Fazel’s works, from the Milan Unit archive series to the display of previously unseen works, following the thread of a traveling artist who has never stopped documenting reality without prejudice.
