Viasaterna is pleased to participate in Artissima 2024 with the works of Teresa Giannico (Bari, 1985) and Camilla Gurgone (Lucca, 1997) in the Monologue/Dialogue section.
The Artissima 2024 exhibition project gives life to a dialogue between the two young artists, presenting a selection of new works that investigate - through different media - the power of images in a society in which everything around us is designed to be seen.
At the core of Giannico’s creative process lies the desire to position herself at the intersection of painting, collage, and photography. Drawing from a vast pool of images downloaded from the web, the artist constructs and reworks a composition—both digitally and manually with charcoal pencils—that reflects on itself, its function, and the resulting social implications. Capable of experimenting and delivering new formal solutions, Giannico starts from a reflection on contemporary amateur photography, the very kind that floods, often with overwhelming abundance, social networks and the entire internet. In the series Eterno Presente, Giannico seeks to expose the apparent democracy and ambiguous freedom upon which these images are based.
In dialogue with Giannico’s works, Camilla Gurgone’s installation Esperienza surreale takes center stage in the booth—a sheet of text printed on ther-mal paper, resulting from the interaction between the artist and AI. By asking the software to describe a lucid dream, Gurgone pushes the boundaries of artificial intelligence, compelling the machine to give surprising emotional responses. Displayed on the front wall is a collection of ceramic works from the series Tachilalia: small supermarket receipts, typically destined to be discarded, are reproduced and reworked by the artist to create unprecedented poetic combinations, sparking a reflection on the fleeting nature of human actions.
