Elisabetta Catalano. Cinema, Moda e Performance
Solo Exhibition
Viasaterna is pleased to present Elisabetta Catalano. Cinema, Moda e Performance, a solo exhibition curated by Laura Cherubini, in collaboration with Archivio Elisabetta Catalano. Opening on Monday, February 16, from 6 to 9 pm.
The exhibition, through a corpus of more than fifty works—mostly vintage prints—recounts the broad and varied artistic journey of this photographer, a profound interpreter of her time and one of its most vivid witnesses. Elisabetta Catalano (Rome, 1944–2015) immortalized, through her photographs, the performances of artists such as Jannis Kounellis, Joseph Beuys, and Fabio Mauri, her life partner. In fact, all her images testify to a privileged relationship with art, thanks to the recurring presence of artworks, architecture, and stage sets within the photographic frame.
Known and loved above all for her extraordinarily rich production of portraits of artists, actors, fashion designers, and leading figures of the cultural world she frequented, this exhibition also brings us closer to her documentary work. A mark of a time when fashion, art, and design were beginning to happily cross-pollinate.
