Opere dall’Apocalisse
Fabio Mauri
VIASATERNA hosts
the exclusive and extraordinary exhibition project: FABIO MAURI. Opere dall’Apocalisse.
The exhibition curated by Francesca Alfano Miglietti, presents for the first time a collection of painting and drawings on paper from Studio Fabio Mauri: the emotions and the imaginary of the artist, that become the primary sources for his practice.
The project, organized in collaboration with Studio Fabio Mauri and Hauser & Wirth, consists in a unitary and coherent itinerary: an intimate path, with a collection of drawings, paintings and photographs that appear as actual artworks on paper and that comprehend the almost unedited Apocalisse series (from the 80s), the Scorticati and some Dramophone, in which the image of the record as a "world already engraved" recalls the theme of predestination.
The literal meaning of “apocalypse” is “revelation”, “discovery”, “unveiling”, and Mauri, with these artworks, seems to investigate the apocalypse as an encounter, rather than as an end. Mauri never retreats, but stands between the folds of a line that silently touches the interdict and the forbidden.
Fabio Mauri (1926-2009), who personally has known abysses, lacerations and deceptions of the ideologies of the last century, is considered an undisputed exponent of the neo-avant-garde of the second half of the Twentieth Century. His activity is very extensive and includes installations, performances, theater and writing. Author of a very personal investigation, which has lasted his entire life, on the insidious logic of art, ideology and totalitarianism, Mauri explores History by filtering it through the lens of the private sphere.
