Guido Guidi
Dalle Cose is the first personal exhibition in Spain of one of the main masters of Italian photography, Guido Guidi (Cesena, 1941), and traces the fundamental traces of the vast constellation of his work, inviting the visitor to discover his theories and visual reflections. The inauguration is scheduled for February 27 at 20 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid.
The exhibition presents the main passages of Guidi's practice, first of all the connections that the temporal dimension inscribes in his work. Some works reflect on the sequence, as in the series dedicated to Preganziol, a small town near Venice, or in his home in Cesena, where he investigates the changes in sunlight filtered through the window; or, again, the shade of the trees during an eclipse, showing how succession and possibilities are distinctive ways of its practice.
Little or nothing is read as a decisive moment, Guidi's work is not based on the production of isolated photographs that have the function of evocative icons. Even those photographs that are exhibited individually or in the form of diptychs belong to larger projects, in which the realization times vary considerably. Sometimes they last a few days as for Gibellina, where Guidi was invited to offer his personal look at the Sicilian territory under reconstruction; while on other occasions, the search may be extended for years, such as for the landscapes of Strada Romea (1975 - 1990) or the Brion Tomb by Carlo Scarpa (1997 - 2007).
With an interest in the slightest transformations due to time, observation for daily life and the changing territory, Guidi's photographs invite us to think of the image as a process that requires the attention of the visitor to grasp it.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with Viasaterna. It will be open to the public from February 28 to May 8, 2020. Free admission. Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 18.00. Closed on holidays.
