Lorenzo Vitturi
Money must be made
MAST Foundation promotes the “V Biennal of Photography on Industry and Work” and invites 10 international artists to exhibit in 10 spaces in the City of Bologna.
At Palazzo Pepoli – Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna, Lorenzo Vitturi presents his solo exhibition entitled Money Must Be Made, curated by Francesco Zanot and open from 14 October until 28 November 2021.
Lorenzo Vitturi, who has always been interested in the encounter between different cultures, developed Money Must Be Made in a residence in Lagos upon the invitation of the African Artists Foundation. The work was set in Balogun, one of the largest street markets in the world, where Vitturi took some photographs and interviewed the local people. He also collected some materials – partly paradoxically produced in Asia – which, once in his studio, he painted with bright and vivid pigments, typical of African culture. Juxtaposing these altered materials, Vitturi realized his sculptures, then photographed and printed.
The result is an exhibition that investigates a fragile and boundless ecosystem, where tradition is confronted with the global economy, where individuals, often portrayed as strong and elegant equilibrists, are still a key factor.
The works of the project Money Must Be Made had also been presented in a book published by SPBH with the collaboration of Viasaterna.
