La forma trattenuta | Stefano Caimi | @VSM
"La Froma Trattenuta” is the title of the exhibition by Stefano Caimi, hosted at the offices of Volvo Studio Milano. Some landscapes reveal themselves only when observed with calm. It is from this time of observation that Stefano Caimi’s site-specific project begins. The work is built from images captured between Alpine landscapes and the urban fabric surrounding Volvo Studio Milano, in a context where greenery is an active part of a designed and complex system.
Through technological tools and digital processing, Caimi deconstructs and reorganizes data, images, and natural forms, translating them into essential scenarios. Technology functions as a reading device: it does not add, but rather makes visible biological structures, rhythms, and relationships that are normally imperceptible. The result is a landscape that is not simply represented, but analyzed and reconstructed as a space of continuous relationship between nature, design, and perception.
In this closely observed winter, nature never appears static. The unprecedented flowers photographed by Caimi—with intense, almost out-of-season colors—are caught on a threshold: as they fade, as they disintegrate, as their form begins to merge with the very matter of the image. They are not still lifes, but organisms in transformation, driven by a force that resists even at the moment of decline. It is a silent resistance, typical of the plant world: plants do not oppose force, but duration.
In this suspended condition, Caimi’s works suggest generative rather than dystopian scenarios. Technology does not impose a form or an order, but intervenes to freeze the image at a precise point of its mutation. The botanical forms appear almost frozen, retained between life and dissolution, like material traces of a present time where resistance comes through the ability to transform
