Teresa Giannico
Bari, 1985. Lives and works in Milan.
Graduated in Visual Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari, she specialized in Drawing and Painting while developing a strong interest in set design and theatre, gradually moving closer to photography. In 2012 she moved to Milan, where she attended the Master in Photography and Visual Design at NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti), and worked as an assistant to photographers Paolo Ventura and Toni Thorimbert. After participating in Plat(t)form 2015 at the Fotomuseum Winterthur (Switzerland), she was
invited to exhibit her work at Fotopub Festival in Novo Mesto (Slovenia) and Circulation(s) in Paris (2016). In 2015 she was a finalist for the Francesco Fabbri Prize with the series Lay Out, which she exhibited in 2016 in the group show On New Italian Photography (Viasaterna, Milan). In 2018 she was selected among the photographers of Futures, a photography platform curated by CAMERA, and exhibited at Unseen (Amsterdam) and CAMERA (Turin). She was an artist-in-residence for the project Casino Palermo (Viasaterna, Palermo, June–July 2018), later participating in the related group exhibition at the gallery’s Milan space (October–December 2018). This was followed by her first solo show Kaleidos at Viasaterna (January 2019), and group exhibitions including Erosioni at Fundació Enric Miralles (Barcelona, 2019), Sguardo Lucido at Fotohof (Salzburg, 2019), Photo Israel (Tel Aviv, 2019), and the Cairo Prize (Milan, 2019). In 2022 she won the VANNI #artistroom award at Artissima, for which she designed a limited-edition pair of glasses. In 2023 she presented the solo exhibition Archives of Empathy at Viasaterna. In 2024 she was selected for the VAF-Stiftung Prize, aimed at supporting contemporary Italian art in Germany, through which she participated in exhibitions at the Stadtgalerie Kiel and the MART in Rovereto. In 2025 she was invited to exhibit at the 18th Rome Quadriennale. In 2025 she exhibited in the group show Transizioni. Dal fotografico alle immagini ibride, curated by Mauro Zanchi, in collaboration with Aurelio Andrighetto, at Viasaterna in Milan.
